چکیده

The human carpal bones, as in most mammals, are usually eight in number, and develop from a common embryological origin by the eighth week of intrauterine life 1. Failure of separation during this development leads to the phenomenon of carpal coalition. The prevalence of the anomaly is uncertain as it is usually asymptomatic 2. Individual cases have been reported which have presented as unusual causes of wrist pain, through arthritis or fracture 3, or even tendon rupture 4. The case reported here shows bilateral lunate-triquetral coalition with unilateral synostosis of the pisiform and triquetrum.

Osseous Scaphotrapezial Coalition

Osseous scaphotrapezial coalition is one of the rarest forms of carpal coalition of the hand. Often discovered incidentally, pain and functional limitation have not been reported. Carpal coalitions occurring across the carpal rows are thought to occur as a result of some insult or congenital anomaly. Isolated scaphotrapezial coalition calls into question the traditional thinking that fusion bet...

Osteochondral resurfacing with proximal row carpectomy: 8-year follow-up.

Degenerative arthrosis of the proximal row remains a challenging problem for both patients and surgeons. Proximal row carpectomy is a motion-preserving treatment option, with studies documenting acceptable long-term outcomes. Proximal row carpectomy is an attractive option because there is no need for fusion to occur between the carpal bones, as in 4-corner fusion. As a result, laborers and smo...

A Complex Variations in the Rout and Branches of Radial Artrey

Radial artrey is one of the two terminal branches of brachial artery. It descends along the lateral side of the foream to the wrist where it curls posterolaterally round the carpus, deep to the snuff box, to reach the proximal end of the first intermetcarpal space where it dips in the palm and crosses medially to form the deep palmar arch with the deep branch of the ulnar artery. In the process...

Excision of the Proximal Row of the Carpus.

The management of pain, stiffness and weakness of the wrist following unsuccessful conservative treatment of fractures of the scaphoid or of Kienb#{246}ck’s disease is a difficult problem. The result of excision of the affected bone is unpredictable and arthrodesis is a major procedure which leaves a disability. To avoid these disadvantages Stamm (1944) suggested arthroplasty of the wrist by ex...
